Literature

for the lyrical ones

About

This page hosts some scientific papers I wrote.

There are also some IT geek stories. They tend to be in German, since English is not my mother tongue. So getting the pun right in another language is really difficult. Nevertheless I hope to release some stories in English as well. Every analogy of the protagonists to real life is intended and not a bug.

Scientific papers

[ Gesture recognition in MMDS ]
14.12.2008

This is an introduction to gesture recognition in multimodal dialog systems (MMDS). The article demands only basic previous knowledge of multimodal dialog systems in general and gesture recognition techniques in special.
This paper is meant to be the right starting point, if you want to get a quick overview of the approach of recognizing gestures with the help of computer systems.

[ Traffic engineering with BGP ]
02.07.2009

This paper will give an overview of how to connect reliably to the Internet using connections to multiple Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Since there are numerous possible ways for packets to enter and leave our own network in such a setup, a network operator might want to control this behavior as best as possible for several reasons. We will discuss how to achieve this goal.

[ Information Security Management Systeme ]
24.03.2010

[ Porting OpenBSD to Fiasco ]
22.06.2011

This is my Bachelor thesis. It describes the the design and implementation of an L4 port of the OpenBSD operating system.
At first, we see an introduction to a security architecture on the operatin system level. That architecture depends on the use of microkernels.
With Fiasco there is a modern L4 based microkernel available. It allows asynchronous messaging with an interrupt-like event system called vCPU. vCPU behaves somewhat like a physical CPU.
Fiasco's vCPU builds the foundation of the execution model. Since L4 microkernels implement memory management in userspace, the ported OpenBSD manages memory on its own, in analogy to the version running on bare metal.

Short Stories

[Frau Transistor ]
13.04.2009

[to be announced]

Do not worry, this story is in the pipeline already.
